Leveraging Girls’ education could bring  social and economic transformation of the Muslim Community

The Saying goes ‘educate a girl, educate a nation’ the saying seems to be more relevant that it was in the past. For centuries women were kept under the dark shadow of ignorance and illiteracy, History is replete with records of women who excelled as brave rulers, scholars, poets and scientists, there are many women nobel laureates too, these days it’s the woman of the family who shoulders the responsibility of educating her kids, while the man keeps himself busy with his work schedule. it’s worth to mention an anecdote about the famous scientist Albert Einstein who has around  thousand inventions to this credit including the invention of electric bulb,  was thrown out of his school for being a slow learner, his mother came to his rescue, she encouraged him and supported his early education by all means under her disposal.

It is pertinent to mention here that the modern woman is instrumental in economic and social transformation  of the community, and nation, the irony is that their sacrifices go unspoken and unheard and their contribution to the nation’s economy, social services and family education haven’t recognized yet.

21st century, an era of women renaissance

The end of the 20th century and the dawn of the 21st century have witnessed a renaissance like era for the women across the globe, this includes Muslim women too, thanks to the opening of number of exclusive girls schools and colleges across India. Among the states in India Kerala is leading in Muslim girls education, Muslim girls in Kerala outnumber their counterparts (in other states) in school and college enrollment. The biggest irony is that many talented and intelligent poor Muslim girls forced to abandon their education mid-way due to either lack of family support or due to financial constraints, it is pertinent to mention that the modern woman is instrumental in economic and social transformation  of the community, and nation.

Girls especially Muslim girls are facing huge challenges in the form of religious mullas who advocate against the education of the Muslim girls There are numerous instances where girls bear the burden of running  the whole family besides saving money for her marriage expenses. These so called mullas have no guts to speak against the dowry seeking, greedy bridegrooms who are responsible for this heinous social evil.

The present Chief ministers of Kerala has taken a bold steps to root out the evil of dowry by enacting a law,  the dowry related legislation requires that  prospective bride grooms irrespective of their religion of cast  should  give an undertaking that no dowdy in any form would be demanded from the bride. If all the states in India enacted this landmark law it would benefit lakhs of unmarried girls in India.

Al amann education and welfare trust always stands for girls’ education, many girls are being

trained in Trust’s skills development center at Bangalore city,  every year scores of girls are provided with education scholarships and other educational support.
